Biography
Hõbe Ilus (b. 1989) is a documentary producer and director from Estonia. She holds a BA in Literature and Theatre Studies from the University of Tartu and a Master’s in Documentary from the Baltic Film and Media School (2018). Hõbe has participated in several international workshops and masterclasses, including Masterclass Interdoc, Ex Oriente Film, and the 10-month UnionDocs Collaborative Studio program (New York, 2020). Her works have been screened and presented at various festivals and markets, including Tallinn Black Nights, Atlanta, IDFA and Hot Docs. Her co-directed and co-produced short “Wedding Officiant” won Best Short Documentary at the Oslo Film Festival (2020). Hõbe is particularly interested in the themes of perception and memory, and their relation to present and past. When producing work for other authors, she focuses on engaging with the creative process, designing production strategies that support each film’s unique aesthetics, needs, and goals. She currently resides in Estonia, where she runs the independent film production company Sui.
